Peer Pressure
Peer Pressure --- the all too familiar mantra of young people today. These life changing words, what do they mean? Young People are being bullied, called names, picked on and even killed because they do not fit into the so-called social clique. It is nothing new it just got bigger and deadlier with the passing years.
Peer Pressure related signs are:
Growing up for those of us who are older, it was something we learned to handle. The school bully --the people who acted stuck up with their head in the cloud, saying and doing mean things to feel better about themselves; the teasing, the name calling, the person with low self-esteem who fed on others to boost their self-confidence; the person who is being bullied in other ways that we do not see, therefore that person feels the need to bully someone else to feel like they are not weak and are in control. It's all right there, right? WRONG!!! It's a whole new generation and with it, a whole lot more. Let's start with Morals and Values, where did it go? Don't we have them anymore? In today's society, it is lacking in every form. Just turn on the television or better yet, just step out your door, or go to the local mall or the grocery store. You don't have to stand there for too long or look for anything to see it coming around the corner.
Our men are wearing their pants down their bottoms and our women are so starved for attention and proper affection that there is very little left to the imagination. You should never feel that you have to expose yourself or devalue yourself to get someone's attention because the way you present yourself to them is the only value they will ever see in you --a piece of meat, one not for a long-term commitment or investment. Is this what you really desire for yourself? Is it a silent cry for help that presents itself to the wrong people and in the wrong way? Have you ever taken an assessment of your self-worth to know that you are more than your flesh?
Peer Pressure comes from the relationships and situations that we have chosen to put ourselves into in order to fit in. The sad truth and the question that comes is: do we really fit in or are we just making fools of ourselves while we become a figment of other people's imagination --a puppet on a string that they really don't even see or care about? God said that YOU ARE WONDERFULLY AND BEAUTIFULLY MADE! When he formed the world and all there is within, he said it was GOOD, but when he made us, he said it was VERY GOOD. The reason why no one else can say that, is because it was GOD who made you, not some other human with an identity crisis. Lord knows I used to think I needed to fit in, because I have been called the names and picked on as a child. I have been told that I think I'm better than people, just because I didn't live by other people's perception of who they thought I should be. It was a terrible feeling and I wanted to fit in real bad because I kept standing out and I don't care to stand out --But God's love showed me that I don't need to fit in or be a part of, for me to be whom he called me to be. Oh no! He gave me the understanding that I am UNIQUE! Yes, we all are unique and don't need to be in a clique to be someone! That's peer pressure and that is not of God. That's what makes you move out from the will of God and from the morals and values that should help to steer you in the right direction. Did you know that the very hairs on your head are numbered and not one finger on your hands have the same print? When you live by the perception of others, you end up living a life of lying, cheating, stealing and Lord knows what else. You become someone you are not and when you are unable to continue living that life to try to please others, those same people you lived your life for are the same people who will walk away from you without as much as a goodbye. You have to make up in your mind that there is only one man you want to live for and THAT IS GOD. He loves you unconditionally, even in all your faults and your mess.
Peer Pressure takes over who you are when you are not quick to break that chain of bondage. It will even cause you to kill just to get what you think you want, but is it really worth it? Make a positive start today --you are more than you can ever imagine, but you must first be willing to see yourself as Christ sees you, not as man does, otherwise you will live by what people think of you and never be able to find the real you.
